Boys Of ’72

During Leeds United’s 87-year history, the Don Revie era stands out. Standards were set that future teams have endeavoured to chase. Among a host of honours and memories the 1971/72 season epitomised Revie’s tenure. A campaign that included triumph and tragedy, one date, one match and one moment stands out for Leeds followers. May 6 1972 lives in the memory because Revie’s legendary side defeated Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley, clinching the trophy for the only time in the club’s history. ‘Sniffer’ Clarke’s flying header is still the most celebrated goal in club folklore. Over three decades have past but supporters and historians eulogise at the football Revie’s side displayed. No supporter will forget the 5-1 rout of Manchester United, 7-0 trouncing of Southampton, nor hard-fought against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur on the road to Wembley. If Leeds had to battle they could, if they could entertain they did so in abundance. Profusely illustrated, Boys of 72 relates memories of Revie’s legendary side when Bremner, Charlton, Hunter and Clarke ruled the roost.
