Match Of My Life – Leeds Rhinos

Leeds RL, known as the Loiners prior to Leeds Rhinos at the onset of the Super League, was founded in 1895. A host of legendary players have donned the iconic blue and amber colours and 13 stars relive unforgettable triumphs. The baker’s dozen includes ‘Golden Boy’ Lewis Jones who starred in the 1950s through to current skipper and Kevin Sinfield who has rewritten records galore. Other stars featured enjoyed Challenge Cup triumphs at Wembley. Hooker Tony Crosby played in the famous “Watersplash’ final, as did winger John Atkinson who recalls a glorious victory over St Helens in 1978, while Leroy Rivett made history with four tries when Leeds last won the coveted trophy. Centre Derek Hallas was a two-try hero in a Championship final triumph as Leeds captured their holy grail in 1961 and pack star Bill Ramsey endured a battle supreme with Castleford to secure the title eight years later. Rob Burrow brings us up bang up to date with a recent Grand Final victory and Danny McGuire’s account of how the Rhinos became the best side in the world adds to the thrills and spills of the modern era. Other days of glee are recalled in a wonderful march down Memory Lane.
